Lightwave 3D Character Animation Level: Beginners
Ebook Description:
This book is for anyone who has ever had a character in their heart
that they’ve wanted to bring to life with as much fluidity, power, and
grace as can be seen in the best animated feature films. This is a
book for anyone who has wanted to become an animator but hasn’t
gone to Sheridan College in Toronto or CalArts in Valencia. This is a
book for animators who have progressed as far as they can on their
own and want to hone their skills to the level of feature-quality animation.
This is a book for feature-quality animators skilled on other
software platforms who have a project that requires them to use
LightWave.
This is not just a book on how to set up and point weight characters.
It is not yet another book that covers the same basics that
nearly every other book on animation presents as “all-there-is-toknow.”
This book covers the complex animation mechanics that are
locked inside every beautifully animated scene but that are difficult to
understand until someone shows you how. It took many gifted people
with careers in animation going back over 30 years to show me what
I hadn’t learned in school or in the books I’d read. I’ve taught many
people who’ve worked for me on projects ranging from films to video
games how to see, understand, and internalize these techniques and
subtleties. It is my goal in this book to pass this information on to a much larger audience, and by doing so, raise the level of animators and the way others perceive animators all across the board.
Animation is an incredible art. It encompasses so much technical and artistic skill that in my experience, nothing else comes close
to the impact it has on the artist or the viewer. We’re moved by
good animation in a way we can’t explain. And there are those of us
who are so touched by it that it consumes us and we have to make it
a part of ourselves. We give our lives to it. And once we finally
understand how to breathe life into these ideas and archetypes we
have had deep within our own mind’s eye, there is no better place to
be than in the space that is created when you’re animating.

Information Technology - 3D - MAYA Post Date: 28 Aug, 2008
Maya 8 - 3D for Beginners Level: Beginners
Ebook Description:
Introducing Maya 8: 3D for Beginners and the world of computergenerated
imagery (CGI). Whether you are new to 3D graphics or venturing into Autodesk’s
powerhouse animation software from another 3D application, you’ll find this book a perfect primer. It introduces you to Maya and shows how you can work with Maya to create your art, whether it is animated or static in design.
This book is part of the Maya Press series; a collaboration between Sybex and Autodesk to create books dedicated to teaching artists all over the world how to use Maya.
This book exposes you to all the facets of Maya by introducing and explaining its tools and functions to help you understand how Maya operates. In addition, you’ll find handson examples and tutorials that give you firsthand experience with the toolsets. Working through these will give you skills as well as knowledge. These tutorials expose you to various ways of accomplishing tasks with this intricate and comprehensive artistic tool.
And, finally, this book explains work flow—not only how specific tasks are accomplished
but why—that is, how they fit into the larger process of producing 3D animation. By doing that, these chapters should give you the confidence to venture deeper into Maya’s
feature set on your own or using any of Maya’s other learning tools and books as a guide.
It can be frustrating to learn a powerful tool such as Maya, so it’s important to remember to pace yourself. The number one complaint of readers of books like this is a sense that either the pace is too fast or the steps are too complicated or overwhelming. That’s a tough nut to crack, to be sure, and no two readers are the same. But what this book offers is a chance to run things at your own pace. The exercises and steps may seem confusing at times, but keep in mind that the more you try, even the more you fail at some attempts, the more you learn how to operate Maya. Experience is key to learning work flows in any software program, and with experience comes failures, and aggravations. But try and try again, and you will see that further attempts will always be easier and more fruitful.
Above all, this book aims to inspire you to use Maya as a creative tool to achieve and explore your own artistic vision.

Open Source .NET Development Level: Beginners
Ebook Description:
Perhaps the most revolutionary aspect of the arrival of Microsoft’s .NET platform is the standardization of C# and the Common Language Runtime. Now, for the first time, programmers can develop and use open-source projects that are based on a language that is an international standard as well as compatible with both Microsoft and Linux platforms.
Open Source .NET Development is the definitive guide on .NET development in an open-source environment
Inside, readers will find in-depth information on using NAnt, NDoc, NUnit, Draco.NET, log4net, and Aspell.Net with both Visual Studio .NET and the Mono Project. Brian Nantz not only shares the best open-source and “free” tools, frameworks, components, and products for .NET, he also provides usable, practical examples and projects. The result is a highly accessible reference for finding the tools that best fit your needs.
Whether you are a .NET developer interested in learning more about open-source tools or an open-source developer curious about .NET, this book will bridge the divide between these formerly distinct camps.
